The conception rate of mares bred to Bohlman Quarter Horse stallions is consistently excellent whether breeding on-site or utilizing transported semen. Rest assured that Bohlman Quarter Horses will not ship low-quality semen. Please read the following information carefully, to ensure your own success.

We make every effort to send 2 doses of semen with a minimum of 1 billion sperm per dose. Occasionally you will only receive 500 million sperm per dose & depending on how many mares need semen on a given day there may only be one dose of semen per mare per shipment.

When possible I dilute the semen 4 to 1 to EZ Mixin CST extender & will send 2 doses of a minimum of 1 billion sperm per dose.

With Whiskey that ends up being 2 billion sperm per 50 cc dose. When it is available I do ship 2 - 50 cc doses. This gives the mare 4 billion sperm per shipment. A average vet checked collection on Whiskey is 66 ml of volume (gel free) with a concentration of 213 x 10 million/ml x 80%=170 x 10 million per cc - Total sperm per ejaculate is 14,058 billion. Sperm Motility 90% & Progressive being 80% - giving 40 million sperm per cc & 2 billion sperm per 50 cc's semen shipped. When 2 doses are shipped the total sperm is 4 billion sperm in 100 cc's of shipped extended semen.

Please DO NOT order semen from Bohlman Quarter Horses by leaving a message on the answering machine. You may leave a message but don't assume its ordered until you actually receive a reply. I do check my email often so you may order through email - but don't consider it ordered until you receive a reply. If ordering semen by answering machine or email make sure you keep trying until you receive a response. It is great to be emailing ahead of the date you are anticipating - but for the final arrangement make sure you speak to someone in person or receive a response from me through email. If you have not talked to someone in person or received an email response then no one received your message.

Please make every effort to order semen the TWO DAYS BEFORE you want it shipped. Shipped semen is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders made later than 9:00 AM. The day prior to collection day are at a higher risk of refusal. Due to our rural setting we need that much time to make Fed Ex arrangements. As soon as you are anticipating a need for semen start communicating with me. Its better to postpone a shipment a day or two than to suddenly phone for semen.

Someone must contact us by Noon. the day prior to needing semen shipped. Semen is available on a priority basis.

Horses that have made arrangements & kept the ranch up to date on mares progress will receive first preference.
Horses that call at the last minute may be at risk for not receiving semen.

Someone should contact me with the following information & at the following times.

Anticipated day of taking the mare to the vet
When the vet detects initial heat
When the vet estimates the day of ovulation
The day prior to needing semen shipped.
Pregnancy status of mare 15 days later.

All fees must be paid prior to each shipment of semen including Fed Ex. Fed Ex fees can be paid through your own account with Fed Ex (this is the recommended procedure)

Do not attempt to utilize cooled transported semen for mares with reproductive problems. Foal Heat Breedings result in the highest percentage of abortions & absorptions.

Otherwise, good planning is the key to breeding your mare with transported cooled semen. Mares should be on a regular teasing and ultrasound examination schedule, since timing is of utmost importance. An experienced, competent Mare Management Facility, or a Veterinarian with extensive cooled transported semen experience should be employed.

Call AHEAD before you actually order semen, and be aware of the following:

Our normal collections days will be Tuesday & Thursdays. Arrangements must be made well in advance for collections made for any other day of the week in order to optimize the fertility of our stallions.

Normal breeding season will be April 1 - July 30. Earlier and later shipments may be accepted -however these will require additional communication & will we need to be notified at least 1 week in advance of the anticipated shipping date.

* All Breeding Fees must be paid prior to ordering semen including booking fee, stud fee, collection fees & Fed Ex Fees.

* A Signed and Completed Breeding Contract must be on file at Bohlmans prior to ordering semen,

* Shipping instructions should be made in writing prior to ordering semen. This includes Name of facility to ship to, Contact person, physical address & phone number.

* Have this information available when you call to order semen:

1) Physical Address and Telephone Number of Semen Recipient,

2) Stallion Name,

3) Mare Name &Registration Number,

4) a reliable Contact Name and Phone Number we can phone if needed.

* The mare owner is responsible for costs of shipping the container back .

* We can only charge the Fed Ex fees to your Fed Ex account. Prior arrangements need to be made for this. Otherwise all estimated Fed Ex fees must be paid in advance.

* Please DO let us know if a pregnancy results from the shipment.

Charges for each shipment are:

Fed Ex Fees. You may use the Fed Ex Shipping Calculator to find approximate shipping fees for your container. The website is: http://www.fedex.com/us/?KNC-FB . You will choose overnight delivery & the zip code being mailed from is 59059. The weight of the container is 4 pounds. The dimensions are: 15" by 9" by 8". This is for size and weight of one specific containers other brands may vary some in size and weight. Federal Express phone number is: 1-800-238-5355

$35 Container Use Fee or buy the container for $50. Containers need to be returned to us within 14 days if paying the use fee.

$75 Delivery Charge for courier services to Billings, MT. This applies to Fed Ex drop off in Billings if arrangements weren't made in time to meet Fed Ex in Roundup.

(Order must be placed prior to 11:00 A.M. the business day previous to collection. 2 business days notice is preferred)

You should ask UPS & Fed-Ex: 1) delivery times in your area, 2) if Saturday delivery is available in your area

Remember: a cooled semen contract does NOT guarantee semen will be available. Cooled semen requests are handled on first-come first-served basis. Following the above guidelines will offer you the highest rate of success. We will make every effort to meet your needs.

RECEIVING SEMEN: A form describing your dose of semen is provided in the Shipping Container. Normally, 2 doses will be available.. If the semen arrives in poor condition, please contact Nancy Bohlman as soon as possible. We make every effort to send a viable dose for your breeding & will keep a sample to compare viability with. Also, please inform us if the Shipping Container appears to have been tampered with.

TO RETURN Shipping Container: After semen is removed from shipping container, coolant cans / packs and all contents should be returned in the shipping container. You may return the copy of the insemination certificate in the shipping container, but please do place it in the PLASTIC BAG. Mail the appropriate copy to the AQHA.

At mare owner's expense Return the container to Bohlman Quarter Horses, P.O. Box 182, 19007 Hwy 12 East, Musselshell, MT 59059 Disposable containers may be mailed through the United States Postal Service..

Additional Informaiton

Make sure to mail AQHA & Me each a copy of the AQHA Insemination Certificate. If these copies are not mailed back to me & to AQHA the foal may not be registerable. It is the of the utmost importance to mail one copy to me & one copy to AQHA or APHA. Failure to do this may result in the resulting foal not being eligible for registration. This is the responsibility of the mare owner.

Breeders Certificates will not be issued if any fees are unpaid.

I strongly recommend being prepared to do a wire transfer for 2nd shipments if needed or setting up a Pay Pal account. There is not enough time to mail payment after preg testing your mare if you need to breed her on another cycle. I will not ship semen on additional cycles unless all fees are paid in advance & money has cleared the bank.
